THE NEW TEXAS MOLD REGULATIONS

The new Texas Mold Regulations are out and went into effect May 16th, 2004.  Are you affected?  Well, let's see:

  • The Mold Regs apply to "mold-related activities that affect Indoor Air Quality."  Note that the activity itself is regulated so it doesn't matter if you're working in a commercial building, an industrial plant, or a school.  Although there are exceptions, if you are performing any type of mold-related activity--sampling, cleaning, removing, etc--then you are affected.

  • If you are performing remediation of an area larger than 25 contiguous feet--then you are affected.  In fact, you must be licensed.

  • If you have had mold remediation performed and are wondering what a Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation is--then you are affected.

To help you understand the new Texas Mold Regulations, CAM Environmental Services has prepared an overview of the regs in PowerPoint format.  This presentation is available free of charge and should answer most of your questions.  You can access it from the Downloads section of the CAM website at or you can click here to be taken directly to the Downloads page.

Although the actual Mold Regs are available at the State of Texas website, CAM Environmental has created an Acrobat PDF file with a hyperlinked Table of Contents and links to the actual regulations as published in the Texas Administrative Code.  Having the regulations in a PDF file allows word searches so you can find relevant sections quickly and easily.  This file is provided courtesy of CAM Environmental and can be downloaded from the Downloads section of the CAM website at or you can click here to be taken directly to the Downloads page.

NAFTA LAUNCHES OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH WEBSITE

Wondering where to get good occupational health and safety information in Spanish?  Look no further.  Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) experts from Mexico, the US, and Canada have launched a new website that focuses on OHS issues.  The site was established as part of the North American Agreement on Labor (the labor side of NAFTA) and provides a wealth of information from the governmental OHS site of each government.  Here you will find links to the United States' Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA), Mexico's Secretaria del Trabajo y Prevision Social (STPS), and Canada's Department of Human Resources and Skills Development (HRSD).

Although the site contains some information of its own, what makes it unique is that it ties together the major OHS policies of the three NAFTA partners.  In addition, all of the information is available in 3 languages:  English, Spanish, or French.  This makes it a great site to reference again and again.

You can reach this site at www.naalcosh.org
